The Life Timeline: Rediscovering Your Self-Worth

How can mapping our life's journey reveal the hidden treasures of our self-worth?

We often get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, striving for perfection and seeking validation from external sources. But what if I told you that your self-worth is so much more than your achievements or the opinions of others?

In this episode, I give a short (but realllyyy powerful) exercise to help you start this process. It’s one of my favorite exercises for reconnecting with self-worth—the Life Timeline Exercise. It's a simple yet profound way to reflect on the highs and lows of your life.

Quick overview if you want to do it:

  • Grab a piece of paper and draw a line representing your life.

  • Plot out those pivotal moments—both the triumphs and the challenges.

This Isn’t about judging yourself: it’s about recognizing your resilience and strength.

As you look at your timeline, you'll see that your journey has been a tapestry of experiences, each one shaping who you are today. The highs remind you of your potential and the joy of your accomplishments, while the lows highlight your incredible ability to bounce back. It's in these moments of struggle and triumph that your true self-worth shines through.

Here's the thing: your self-worth is not tied to what you achieve or how others perceive you. It's about honoring your journey, embracing your imperfections, and recognizing the unique value you bring to the world. Perfectionism can often cloud our sense of self-worth, making us feel like we're never enough. But the truth is, you are enough—just as you are.

When we reconnect with our self-worth, we tap into a powerful force that can create positive change in our lives and beyond. It's about shifting our focus from external validation to internal acknowledgment. Celebrate your progress, no matter how small, and remind yourself that your worth is inherent. You are worthy of love, respect, and all the wonderful things life has to offer simply because you exist.

So, how can you start this journey of rediscovery? Begin by practicing self-compassion and kindness towards yourself. Speak to yourself as you would to a dear friend, with love and understanding. Remember that every step you take, no matter how small, is a step toward embracing your true worth.

Engage in activities that nourish your soul and make you feel alive. Whether it's spending time in nature, journaling, or connecting with loved ones, prioritize what makes your heart sing. Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you, and don't be afraid to set boundaries with those who don't.
