EPISODE 67

From Corporate to Entrepreneur as a Mom with Marisa Lonic

How can we redefine success as working mothers, shifting the focus from societal expectations to personal fulfillment and well-being?

Being a working mother is like being a superhero with a never-ending to-do list. From the crack of dawn to the wee hours of the night, we're constantly juggling a myriad of roles and responsibilities. But amidst the chaos, there's a quiet whisper in our hearts—a dream waiting to be chased, a passion longing to be pursued.

This week I sat down with the incredible Marisa Lonic and we chatted about this very topic. We have similar backgrounds going from the corporate world to now doing the things we love for our businesses all while being mamas. This conversation had so many juicy nuggets!

Marisa's journey from corporate powerhouse to the heart-centered entrepreneur behind Mama Work It is a testament to the power of intuition, resilience, and self-belief.

As a mom of four, Marisa knows firsthand the juggling act that is balancing work and family life. She openly shared the challenges she faced in finding that delicate equilibrium, and how she navigated through the doubts and uncertainties along the way. But what shines through in her story is her unwavering faith in following her intuition, even when the logical choice seemed elusive.

Marisa and I dove deep into the unique hurdles that working moms encounter when chasing their dreams. From societal expectations to internalized doubts, we unpacked it all. We talked about the importance of stepping out of our own way, silencing the inner critic, and staying laser-focused on our goals.

One of the biggest takeaways for me was the power of intentionality in how we structure our days, and the ripple effect it has on our overall well-being. It's not just about managing our schedules; it's about nurturing our souls and honoring our priorities.

When I was in Marie Forleo’s Time Genius class, she mentioned how we all have the same 168 hours in a week. That’s 45 hours working, 56 hours sleeping (if we even get that lucky, ha!) and then there are roughly 50-60 hours left. That’s a freakin’ second full-time job! So if we’re being truly intentional with how we spend our time, can you just imagine what all could happen in those extra 50-60 hours? There is always enough time for what matters most to you, mama.

The intentionality doesn't mean that you're using every moment to do something “productive” in your life. It means you're showing up with good reason for what you're doing. You're really thinking it through. You're not letting the day run you, you’re running the day as Jim Rohn says. - Marisa

That is SO important and powerful. There are billions of things that are vying for your attention in a day, but you as a being get to choose what's going to get your attention.

Along with intentionality, comes with self-care. Marisa's journey taught her the vital lesson of prioritizing her dreams without neglecting herself. She beautifully articulated how practicing self-love isn't just beneficial for us, but also serves as a powerful example for our children. And I think that is something we all need to remember. When we take the time to invest in ourselves, to go do something fun, and to do something we’re passionate about, I can’t help but wonder what our kids are learning from that. SO MUCH. It’s not just about what we teach them, it’s about what we show them.

if you're out there and you're a mom and you're working, I hope you can just take something from this and put it in your back pocket and weave it into your world because whatever your heart desires, you are worthy and capable of creating in your life. It just might look different than what you thought.
